PRESS RELEASE - 1st Policy Dialogue of MIRRIS in Bulgaria

Sofia - June 3, 2014

The participation of Bulgaria to FP7 has been discussed on 3rd June within the framework of MIRRIS (Mobilizing Institutional Reform for Research and Innovation Systems) in Sofia. The MIRRIS Consortium in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria organised the 1st out of 3 rounds of meetings with key Bulgarian stakeholders to address the main elements concerning the participation and the performance of national key actors to the 7th framework programme.

 Bulgaria’s success rate in applying for FP7 is below the average of the EU13 and significantly below that of the EU28, standing at 16.4%. The gain per head of populations stands at 11.4 € and the average number of funding received per beneficiary stands at 141 k euro.

The High Education Institutions Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is the organization that has participated in the highest number of projects, coming at number of 42 in FP7 period 2007-2012. Among the Research Centre, the Instityte of Information and Communication Technology is the best Bulgarian performer and the 6th in the ranking of EU 13 due to the total number of 30 participation in projects.  


MIRRIS is a support action funded under FP7 Social Sciences and Humanities programme.


MIRRIS (Mobilizing Institutional Reform for Research and Innovation Systems) is a Coordination and Support Action aiming at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of R&I performance in ERA and Framework Programmes of the EU12 and Croatia and to propose new initiatives to improve participation to Horizon 2020.
MIRRIS seeks to promote a high level of participation and funding within the European Research Area and Framework Programmes, by 1) understanding success factors 2) identifying key actions and 3) mobilizing key stakeholders for improving performance and better exploiting H2020 and synergies with structural funds. To achieve this goal MIRRIS will organize 3 rounds of policy dialogue in each target country, promote mutual learning and prepare a road map for implementation.
MIRRIS is funded under FP7 Social Sciences and Humanities programme and implemented by a consortium of 12 leading organizations in the field of research and innovation.
