PRESS RELEASE - 1st Policy Dialogue of MIRRIS in Slovakia

Bratislava - May 27, 2014

The participation of Slovakia to FP7 has been discussed today within the framework of MIRRIS (Mobilizing Institutional Reform for Research and Innovation Systems) in Bratislava. The MIRRIS Consortium in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia organised the 1st out of 3 rounds of meetings with key Slovakia stakeholders to address the main elements concerning the participation and the performance of national key actors to the 7th framework programme. The dialogue in Slovakia was the 5th in a round of successfully conducted policy dialogues on the above noted topic.

Slovakia’s success rate in FP7 is in line with the EU13 and but below that of the EU28. By contrast, the number of FP7 participations for Slovakia is greater than would be expected for a country of Slovakia’s size.

The gain per head of population is 11.50€, per inhabitant, which is closer to EU 13 average of 13.50€ but far from EU 27 standing at 58.04€. The average number of € per beneficiary in Slovakia is lower that the EU 13 average (154 k vs 167) and far from EU27 average (324k).

Slovak presidency of the EU (2015, 2nd half) is perceived as an opportunity for Slovakia to showcase the country potential in the domain od research due to numerous  international conferences and events that will be held during the presidency chairing period.
