European funding for Research & Innovation in Croatia: an Activity Plan to increase the Croatian participation - Zagreb, 16 November 2015
On 16th November 2015, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports has gathered national stakeholders, to discuss and prioritise measures, which could improve the participation of the Croatian organisation to the EU programme for Research & Innovation.
The event was organised in the frame of the European initiative MIRRIS. The dialogue is the third one of a cycle where the hosting Ministry of Science, Education and Sports has mobilised all the relevant decision makers to be present in the dialogue in Zagreb.
During the day the stakeholders discussed about the most suitable measures to be proposed for implementation and pilot testing aiming at increasing participation of the Croatian participants to the EU programmes. Croatia’s main challenge is to endorse a set of measures addressing the added value of participation to EU programmes, promotion of Croatian research excellence with strong presence in Brussels and increase of skilled human capacity inside of Research organisations with focus at market oriented research.

To overcome identified challenges for the country, Croatian stakeholders shall strive towards an increase participation to the EU programmes and building of research and human support infrastructure based on synergies of ESIF and H2020 with particular focus at regions, participation to European associations and networks, further building of partnerships and international linkages as well as strengthening of inter-sectorial collaboration and attraction of foreign researchers, promotion of Croatian research excellence at wider scale with a strong presence in Brussels.
Furthermore, the implementation of the above noted activities was
observed from the point of synergies at national level among Structural
Funds and Horizon 2020. Participants, following the input proposed by
the project coordinator
META,
discussed a broader scope of potential actions to be undertaken to
improve the participation in Horizon 2020 and to upgrade the national
system of Research and Innovation.
The MIRRIS Consortium will
continue to support the implementation of actions engaging peers to
provide tailored coaching in the areas with the highest priority
identified during the dialogue.
